The gist of the sermon

The sermon on Sunday on Matt 7:5 and surrounding, about taking the plank out of our own eye before taking the speck out of our brother's eye. Both kids were paying attention.

After church when we were discussing it: E, "That would be hard to take a speck out of someone's eye, wouldn't it? The board would be easier."

Today at dinner, after I had been admonishing the kids to finish up, E still had almost a full plate and T had one bite of vegetable left. When T said he was done, E pointed out that no, he still had a bite left. So I lightheartedly told E she should "get the plank out of her own eye and finish her FULL plate of food before she gets the speck out of her brother's eye and tells him to eat one little bite."

T said, "Oh, I think I somewhat get it now. E should take care of what she needs to do then she can mess with me."
So it's coming, but perhaps we need to talk some more about what Jesus meant in the concept referred to by the "mess with someone" part. . .
