We have been reading the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, a chapter each evening. At first T&E were a little hesitant about it. Only one picture per chapter! But they quickly got immersed in the story . . worrying about Mr. Tumnus and if he was turned to stone, suggesting Aslan could eat the witch, and wondering what the beavers would sound like in our world, and so on.
So the other night after we read, I explained a little about how the story can be interpreted as a metaphor . . how the witch is like Satan, and how Aslan is like Jesus Christ. After a few minutes of reflection, Tyler voiced his concern. "Mom, that can't be." When I asked why, he asserted that no one is like God and if we say someone is God, that is sin. (!!!) It was such a blessing to me to hear that basic truth from his mouth in such a decided way. I explained that I wasn't saying Aslan WAS God, but that in this story, what he does is like what Jesus did for us. Pause. Tyler gave an audible sigh and relaxed, saying, "Good, that's OK then."
