Emily turned 4 years old today. Her birthday this year fell during the kids' normally scheduled weekly time with their dad, so today at his house she got to help her step-mom make the cake (when I called to wish her happy birthday she was licking the bowl clean and said she wished she could eat the whole cake that way), went swimming at the hot springs, and had a birthday party with that side of the family at a restaurant.
When they came home this evening and I wished her happy birthday again, Emily asked me why I hadn't given her a birthday present. I explained that we would be celebrating her birthday again tomorrow, making the cake, decorating, etc. and that Tyler and I would give her our presents then. I asked if it was OK with her if we had another birthday party for her. She smiled, nodded, and said, "Then I'll be 5!"
